Valentines Party!

We had so much fun on Tuesday with all of our Valentine's activities!

In the morning each student drew a name of another student in our class and wrote them a valentines of 10 things they liked about them. The kids kept it a surprise about whose name they drew and then at the end of the day, they got to put the letter into their friends Valentines bag.

After lunch, we all took an estimate about how many candy hearts were in a box...we counted and found that there were 27! The closet estimate was 22. We were all surprised by how many were in the box. Then each student got their own box of candy hearts and sorted and graphed them. Then of course, they got to eat them :)

The students then got a template of a heart, they were able to draw sections in their heart and then draw pictures and write words of the things that "fill their heart" or the things that they love.

Sweet kids with their Valentines hats :) They had such a fun day!

Doing some watercolor painting and a hidden picture drawing.

Making different animals out of hearts.

Opening valentines, decorating sugar cookies, drinking big red floats, and eating some good food!

Thanks to all the parents who came to help! Very much appreciated!

Silly boys enjoying some of their Valentines.

So thankful for your sweet children in my class :)

Don't forget that there is no school on Monday!

And we have our roller skating field trip coming up. It will be on Tuesday February 28th, please send the permission slip back with 4 dollars. Thanks!

This Week in Kindergarten

We've had a busy week with doing our guided reading rotations, talking about and comparing shapes in math, learning about the letter "y" in phonics, talking about constellations and shadows in science, and getting things ready for our Valentine's party on Tuesday!

We also had our school's book fair this week and ended up getting enough money and reaching our goal, so that next Friday (the 17th) we can wear our pajamas to school! I've already told the kids about it and they are all excited to wear pajamas to school again! And lots of them got some great books and things at the book fair too.

Here are some of the things we've done in class this week:

In math, we've been talking about circles, rectangles, triangles, and squares and discussing the ways that they are the same and different. On Thursday, the students made pictures using the different shapes. It was fun watching them be creative with what they made.

We are making a class book of the places that we want to go. The students came up with a sentence of someplace they wanted to go, then I typed it up and they had to cut it apart and put it together in the right order and draw a picture to go along with it.

Here are examples of some of the students writing from this week. I try to do a writing activity with them at least once a week, and many of the students are really growing in their writing ability- by sounding out words, remembering to put spaces, using capital letters in the correct place, and remembering correct punctuation.

On Friday we did some Valentine rotations! We decorated bags, made cards for different people, and decorated a holder for valentine cards as well.

Here is a Valentine card that one student made for our principal :)

Our Valentine's Party will be on Tuesday at 2:15. You are more than welcome to come and join us!

Also, report cards are going to be sent out next week, so be looking for them in your child's folder.

We are taking a field trip to Wheels Family Skate Center on February 28th. There was a field trip form sent home today. Please read it over and send it back with 4 dollars and your child's shoe size.

And on March 1st and 2nd we are having flex days. Only some students are required to attend school on those days. You will get a letter sent home on Monday letting you know whether or not your child needs to come to school. It will be for those students who need extra help with their learning. So be watching for that letter as well! :)

Enjoy your weekend!
